📖 阅读材料

In biology, the concept of 'behavioral adaptation' refers to an action or series of actions that an organism performs to survive in its environment. Unlike physical adaptations, which are structural features, behavioral adaptations are learned or instinctive responses that help an animal find food, avoid predators, or reproduce successfully. These behaviors can be innate, such as migration patterns, or acquired through experience. They are crucial for coping with changing conditions and often enhance an organism's chances of survival and reproductive success.

Professor: Today, let’s look at a clear example of behavioral adaptation—the capuchin monkey in Central America. During the dry season, water sources become scarce, and these monkeys face a problem. Instead of relying on streams, they have learned a clever behavior. They find tree holes that collect rainwater, but these holes are often too deep for them to drink. So, they take a leaf, chew it into a sponge-like shape, dip it into the hole, and then suck the water from the leaf. This is not a fixed instinct—young monkeys watch adults and learn this technique over time. It helps them survive when water is limited. So, this learned behavior directly addresses a survival challenge in their environment.
❓ 问题 Question: Using the example from the lecture, explain the concept of behavioral adaptation.
