Campus Announcement: Extended Library Hours During Finals Week. Starting Monday, December 12th, the main library will be open 24 hours a day until Friday, December 16th. This change is to accommodate students during final exams. To ensure a quiet study environment, the third floor will remain a designated silent study area, while the first and second floors will allow group study and discussion. No additional staffing will be provided during these extended hours.

M: Did you see the email about the library staying open 24 hours during finals? That's great, right? I can finally pull all-nighters without being kicked out at midnight. W: Well, I'm not so sure it's a good idea. I mean, yes, more hours are helpful, but they're not adding any staff. That means there won't be enough people to keep the place clean or to help at the circulation desk. Last semester during finals, the library was already a mess with books and trash everywhere. Now with even more hours, it's going to be worse. M: Hmm, I hadn't thought about that. But I still think it's worth it. I can get more work done, and I don't really need much help from staff anyway. Plus, having the third floor silent is perfect for me. W: But think about the noise on the first two floors. With group study allowed all night, it could get really loud. I've had experiences where I couldn't concentrate even on the third floor because the noise carried up. And without staff to enforce the quiet rules, it'll be chaos. I think they should have hired more student workers instead of just extending hours.
