TOEFL Speaking Task 2

The university has announced that, starting next semester, the campus library will extend its operating hours to 2 a.m. on weekdays. This change aims to provide more flexible study time for students. To accommodate this, the library will reduce the number of study rooms available during daytime hours to allocate staff for evening shifts.

M: Did you hear about the library staying open until 2 a.m.? I think it's a great idea. I'm often in the lab until late, and having a quiet place to study afterward would really help me focus. W: I see your point, but I'm not so sure. Cutting daytime study rooms is a big problem. I have group projects that meet in the afternoon, and those rooms are already hard to book. With fewer rooms, it'll be nearly impossible. M: But you can always use the open study areas. Plus, I think most students who need group space can adapt. The extended hours are more valuable for everyone—many of us are night owls. W: Maybe, but the library staff also mentioned that they'll have to close some of the computer labs in the evening to manage. That seems counterproductive if you need to write papers late. M: I rarely use the labs; I have my own laptop. And I think the quiet study time outweighs the lab issue. I'm definitely for it.
