TOEFL Speaking Task 2

Announcement: Starting next semester, the university will extend library hours to 24/5 (Sunday night through Friday night) and remain open until 10 PM on Saturdays. This change is designed to accommodate students' diverse study schedules, especially during midterms and finals. Additionally, a new quiet study floor will be added to the third floor, strictly enforced to minimize distractions. The extended hours will require additional staffing, funded by a small increase in the student technology fee.

Student 1: Did you see the library announcement? I think it's a great idea. I often stay late for my engineering projects, and the current 10 PM closing on weekdays is too early. Having 24/5 access means I won't have to rush to finish my coding assignments. Also, the new quiet floor is perfect for me. I can't concentrate when people whisper or type loudly. The third floor will be a haven for deep work. Student 2: I see your point, but I'm against it. The extra hours will cost more, and that technology fee increase hits all students, even those who rarely use the library at night. Plus, the quiet floor will just move the noise elsewhere—people who want to chat will crowd the other floors, and that will make it harder for group study sessions. I prefer the current setup where noise is spread out.
