Today we're going to discuss the impact of urban green spaces on mental health. A recent study conducted in Melbourne followed 2,000 residents over five years. Participants who lived within 300 meters of a park or garden reported 40% lower levels of stress. Interestingly, the size of the green space mattered less than its accessibility. Even small pocket parks had a significant positive effect. However, the study found that the presence of water features, like ponds or fountains, did not enhance the benefits. The researchers suggest that city planners should prioritize creating more small, easily reachable green areas rather than large, distant parks.
