Today in our environmental science lecture, we're discussing urban green spaces. Professor Thompson highlighted a recent study from the University of Melbourne. The study found that adding more parks and trees in city centers can reduce local temperatures by up to 2.5 degrees Celsius. Interestingly, the effect is strongest when green spaces are connected, forming corridors, rather than isolated pockets. The researchers also noted that these areas improve air quality, but the cooling effect was the most significant benefit. They recommend that city planners prioritize creating linked green networks, especially in densely built neighborhoods.
