Today we're going to discuss the impact of climate change on agriculture. In particular, I want to focus on how rising temperatures affect crop yields. A recent study from the University of California found that for every degree Celsius increase, wheat production drops by about 6%. However, this effect is not uniform. In cooler regions, such as northern Europe, higher temperatures might actually extend the growing season, leading to increased yields. But in tropical areas, where crops are already near their heat tolerance, even a small rise can cause significant losses. The study also highlighted that adaptation strategies, like developing heat-resistant crop varieties, could mitigate some of these negative effects.
