Today we're going to discuss the history of the bicycle. The first bicycle, invented in the early 19th century, had no pedals; riders pushed their feet along the ground. This was called a 'hobby horse'. Later, in the 1860s, pedals were added to the front wheel, creating the 'velocipede'. However, it was uncomfortable due to its rigid frame and wooden wheels. The real breakthrough came in 1885 with the 'safety bicycle', which featured a chain drive to the rear wheel and equal-sized wheels, making it much safer and more efficient. This design quickly became popular and remains the basis for modern bicycles.
