Today we're going to discuss the impact of urban green spaces on mental health. A recent study conducted in Melbourne followed 1,000 residents over five years. Participants who lived within 300 meters of a park or garden reported lower levels of stress and anxiety. Interestingly, the size of the green space mattered less than its accessibility. Even small community gardens had a positive effect, but only if they were well-maintained and safe. The study also found that people who visited these spaces at least once a week were 20% more likely to describe their overall well-being as 'good' compared to those who rarely went outside. However, the researchers noted that the benefits were stronger for older adults than for younger people.
