Today we're going to discuss the history of the bicycle. The first bicycle, invented in the early 19th century, was called a 'velocipede'. It had no pedals; riders pushed their feet against the ground to move. Later, in the 1860s, the 'penny-farthing' appeared, with a large front wheel and a small rear wheel. It was fast but dangerous. By the 1880s, the 'safety bicycle' was introduced, featuring two wheels of equal size and a chain drive. This design made cycling much safer and more accessible, leading to a boom in popularity among both men and women.
