Good morning. Today we're going to discuss the history of the bicycle. The first two-wheeled vehicle, called the draisine, was invented in 1817 by a German baron. It had no pedals; riders pushed their feet along the ground. Later, in the 1860s, pedals were added to the front wheel, creating the velocipede. However, it was very uncomfortable due to its solid rubber tires. It wasn't until 1885 that the modern safety bicycle appeared, with a chain drive to the rear wheel and equal-sized wheels. This design became popular because it was safer and faster than earlier models.
