DG Class

Dangerous Goods Class (DG Class) is a core classification term in international dangerous goods transportation. It refers to the nine major classes into which dangerous goods are divided according to their primary hazards, based on standards such as the United Nations Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG Code). Specifically, they include: Class 1 Explosives, Class 2 Gases, Class 3 Flammable Liquids, Class 4 Flammable Solids/Spontaneously Combustible Substances/Substances which emit flammable gases when wet, Class 5 Oxidizing Substances and Organic Peroxides, Class 6 Toxic and Infectious Substances, Class 7 Radioactive Material, Class 8 Corrosives, and Class 9 Miscellaneous Dangerous Substances. Usage scenarios mainly involve booking, customs declaration, carrier declaration, warehousing, and insurance, where accurate DG Class must be provided to determine packaging, segregation, and emergency measures. Notes: Different modes of transport (sea, air, land) may have different subdivisions and labeling requirements for DG Class, and it must be used in conjunction with the UN number and packing group. Compared with general cargo, the DG Class directly determines transportation compliance and costs; incorrect declaration may lead to fines, cargo detention, or even safety accidents.
