Distribution Warehouse

A distribution warehouse is a logistics node in the foreign trade supply chain used for temporary storage, sorting, consolidation, and distribution of goods, typically located near ports, airports, or consumer markets. Its core function is not long-term storage but rapid turnover: receiving bulk shipments from different suppliers or factories, unpacking, sorting, labeling, repacking according to order requirements, and then distributing to multiple destinations (such as retailers, e-commerce warehouses, or end customers). Use cases include: cross-border e-commerce FBA transit, multi-country LCL distribution, regional distribution centers, return processing, etc. Notes: A distribution warehouse does not change the origin of goods but may affect tariff and VAT deferral; warehouse responsibilities (such as storage fees, handling fees, damage liability) must be clarified; unlike a 'bonded warehouse,' a distribution warehouse usually does not enjoy tariff suspension unless located in a free trade zone or bonded area; compared with a 'transit warehouse,' a distribution warehouse emphasizes active sorting and distribution functions rather than mere transshipment. Foreign trade practitioners should pay attention to inventory visibility, timeliness, and costs of distribution warehouses to avoid delivery breaches caused by distribution delays.
