Open Top Container

Open Top Container is a special type of container with no fixed roof, only covered by a removable waterproof tarpaulin and equipped with movable top rails. It is mainly used for loading over-height cargo such as large machinery, steel, timber, glass, etc., which cannot be loaded through the door due to height exceeding standard container door height and need to be lifted from the top. Usage scenarios include: over-height and over-weight cargo transport, cargo requiring top loading/unloading, and some project logistics. Precautions: The container strength is the same as a standard container, but the top waterproofing relies on the tarpaulin, which must be securely fastened to prevent water leakage; when cargo is over-height, confirm whether it exceeds vessel stowage limits; freight is usually higher than standard containers and requires advance application to the shipping company. The difference from standard containers is the loading method: standard containers can only be loaded through the door, while open top containers can be lifted from the top; the difference from flat rack containers is that open top containers have side and end walls, while flat racks have no side walls and are more suitable for over-width cargo. In foreign trade, note: clearly mark 'Open Top' when booking, provide cargo dimensions and weight, confirm whether additional reinforcement or dunnage is needed, and purchase appropriate insurance.
