Customized Service

Customized Service in foreign trade refers to a service model where suppliers provide personalized adjustments based on standard products or completely design, produce, package, and deliver according to customer-specific needs. It is widely used in OEM/ODM cooperation, small-batch trial orders, brand customization, special specification requirements, etc. Precautions include: clarifying customer-specific requirements (such as size, material, function, packaging, labeling, etc.), assessing production feasibility and costs, agreeing on intellectual property ownership, and noting that minimum order quantity (MOQ) and delivery time may be extended due to customization. Compared with standard products, customized services can enhance customer loyalty and profit margins, but risks include requirement changes, high communication costs, and difficulty in inventory forecasting. Unlike 'personalized service,' which focuses on the service process, customization emphasizes adjustments to the physical attributes of the product itself. It differs from 'flexible production' in that the latter is a capability, while the former is a result. Foreign trade practitioners should specify customization standards, acceptance methods, and liability for breach of contract in contracts to avoid disputes.
