Collapsible Container

A collapsible container is a foldable logistics container, typically made of plastic, metal, or composite materials, used for carrying, protecting, and circulating goods during warehousing, transportation, and distribution. Its core feature is that it can be folded when empty, greatly saving storage and return transportation space and reducing logistics costs. In foreign trade, this term commonly appears in procurement contracts, packing lists, ocean bills of lading, and packaging clauses. Use cases include: export goods requiring multiple cycles (such as auto parts, fresh produce, electronic components), or importers requiring suppliers to use returnable packaging. Precautions: it is necessary to specify the folded dimensions, load capacity, material, and folding mechanism to avoid rejection due to non-conforming specifications; also pay attention to cost sharing and return arrangements for collapsible containers under trade terms such as FOB and CIF. The difference from disposable packaging boxes is that they are reusable; the difference from pallets is that containers usually carry goods independently and can be stacked, while pallets need to be used with forklifts. Foreign trade practitioners should pay attention to the environmental regulations of the target market (such as the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive) and customers' requirements for the number of cycles of collapsible containers.
