Outer Packing

Outer Packing refers to the outermost layer of packaging used to protect, handle, and store goods during transportation. It typically comes into direct contact with transport vehicles or storage yards, such as cartons, wooden cases, pallets, and containers. Its core function is to ensure that goods are not damaged during long-distance transportation and multiple loading/unloading operations, and to facilitate customs inspection and logistics operations. Usage scenarios include export declaration, booking, insurance, and letter of credit document presentation. Especially in sea and air transport, outer packing must comply with Incoterms and carrier requirements. Precautions: Outer packing should be sturdy, suitable for the mode of transport, and marked with shipping marks, weight, dimensions, etc.; if it contains dangerous goods, it must also comply with international dangerous goods regulations. Unlike Inner Packing, which focuses on sales and moisture protection, outer packing focuses on transport protection; it is often interchangeable with Transport Packing, but outer packing emphasizes the outermost layer. In addition, if a letter of credit stipulates outer packing terms, they must be strictly complied with, otherwise payment may be refused.
