Packing Specification

Packing Specification is a key term in foreign trade contracts, letters of credit, packing lists, and other documents. It refers to the detailed parameters of cargo packaging, including specific dimensions, weight, quantity, material, and markings. It typically includes the length, width, and height of each package, gross/net weight, quantity per carton, packaging materials (such as cartons, wooden cases, pallets), and shipping marks. Usage scenarios cover quotations, booking, customs declaration, transportation, and customer acceptance upon receipt. Precautions: Packing specifications must strictly comply with the contract and letter of credit; otherwise, discrepancies may lead to refusal of payment. Different modes of transport (e.g., sea, air) have different requirements for packing specifications, which should be confirmed in advance. If the customer specifies packing specifications, written confirmation should be obtained and evidence retained. The difference from terms such as 'outer packaging dimensions' and 'quantity per carton' is that packing specification is a comprehensive description, while the latter refer to a single dimension. Correct use of this term helps avoid cargo damage, improve loading/unloading efficiency, and meet the importing country's environmental or safety regulations.
