Container Desiccant

Container desiccants are moisture-proof products specifically designed for use inside shipping containers. Their main components are hygroscopic materials such as calcium chloride or silica gel. They work by absorbing moisture from the air inside the container to prevent cargo from getting damp, developing mold, or rusting. Use cases include: long-distance ocean shipping (especially on high-humidity routes), moisture-sensitive cargo (such as furniture, textiles, electronics, and metal products), and routes with significant temperature and humidity fluctuations. Precautions: dosage must be calculated based on container volume, voyage duration, and cargo characteristics (typically 8-12 strips per 20ft container and 16-20 strips per 40ft container); hanging positions should avoid cargo and container walls to ensure air circulation; do not allow direct contact with food. Difference from other terms: ordinary desiccants (such as small silica gel packets) are used inside products, whereas container desiccants are hung from the container ceiling and cover the entire container space; unlike moisture-barrier bags, they do not seal the cargo but instead regulate the overall humidity inside the container. Correct use can significantly reduce the risk of cargo damage.
