Desiccant

Desiccant in foreign trade refers to chemical substances used to absorb moisture inside packaging to prevent goods from becoming damp, moldy, or rusting. Common types include silica gel, montmorillonite, calcium chloride, and molecular sieves. They are widely used in scenarios such as electronics, leather goods, textiles, mechanical parts, and food during long-distance shipping or storage. Precautions: Select the appropriate type and amount based on cargo characteristics and transportation environment (temperature, humidity, voyage); some desiccants (e.g., calcium chloride) may leak after absorbing moisture, requiring leak-proof packaging; exports to the EU must comply with REACH regulations, and food-contact types must meet FDA or EC standards. Difference from 'moisture-proof agent': moisture-proof agents usually refer to coatings or films that block water vapor, while desiccants actively adsorb moisture. Difference from 'odor remover': odor removers target odors, while desiccants target humidity. Additionally, desiccants may be classified as dangerous goods or general chemicals and must be declared correctly based on composition to avoid customs seizure.
