Repair Inventory

Repair Inventory is a professional term in foreign trade and supply chain management, referring to the parts, spare parts, or complete units that a company specifically stocks for repairing, refurbishing, or replacing products that have been sold or are leased. Usage scenarios include: after-sales repair services, free repairs within the warranty period, maintenance of leased equipment, and cross-border return and exchange processing. Notes: Repair inventory must be managed separately from sales inventory to avoid confusion in cost accounting; when importing and exporting, attention must be paid to customs regulatory conditions for 'repair purposes,' such as temporary import and export, bonded repair, and other models; if cross-border repair is involved, rules of origin and tariff treatment must also be considered. The difference from 'sales inventory' is that its purpose is repair rather than direct sale; the difference from 'safety stock' is that the latter is set to cope with demand fluctuations, while repair inventory addresses after-sales demand for products already sold. It overlaps with 'spare parts inventory,' but repair inventory emphasizes the overall reserve used for repair activities, including the recovery and replacement of repairable items.
