Electronic Version

In foreign trade, 'Electronic Version' typically refers to documents, certificates, or products that exist in digital form, such as contracts, invoices, bills of lading, certificates of origin, etc., in PDF, Word, or image format, rather than paper originals. Its main uses include: quickly transmitting and confirming transaction information, serving as a supplement or backup to formal paper documents, and replacing paper documents in electronic presentation (e.g., eUCP). Precautions: Electronic documents may not have legal effect (unless agreed by both parties or using electronic signatures), are susceptible to tampering, and must be transmitted through reliable channels with evidence retained; some countries' customs or banks only accept paper originals. Differences from 'Original' and 'Copy': Electronic versions have no physical form; originals usually refer to paper originals that are negotiable or have full legal effect; copies explicitly have no legal effect. Difference from 'Scanned Copy': A scanned copy is a digitized image of a paper document, whereas an electronic version can be natively generated in a digital environment. Foreign trade practitioners should clarify the acceptance level of electronic documents in contracts or letters of credit to avoid refusal of payment or customs delays due to non-conforming document forms.
