General Agent

General Agent refers to an agency arrangement in which the principal authorizes the agent to handle all designated business on behalf of the principal within a specific territory or business scope, with exclusive operating rights. A General Agent typically has the authority to sign contracts, handle goods sales, collect payments, provide after-sales services, and manage a wide range of affairs on behalf of the principal, with far greater authority than an ordinary agent or exclusive agent. This arrangement is commonly used when enterprises seek to open up new overseas markets and leverage a General Agent to quickly establish distribution channels. Precautions: The agency agreement must clearly specify the agency territory, term, commission, minimum purchase amount, non-compete clauses, etc., to avoid losing control due to excessive authority. Difference from Exclusive Agent: An Exclusive Agent only enjoys exclusive selling rights, but their authority is usually limited to selling specific products; a General Agent may cover a broader range of business, including performing legal acts on behalf of the principal. Difference from Ordinary Agent: An Ordinary Agent does not enjoy exclusive operating rights, and the principal may appoint multiple agents simultaneously.
