ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival)

Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) is a core term in foreign trade and international logistics, referring to the expected date and time when goods, means of transport (such as ships, aircraft, trucks), or containers are expected to arrive at the destination port, airport, or delivery location. It is widely used in sea, air, land, and multimodal transport scenarios to coordinate customs clearance, warehousing, delivery, and the production and sales plans of buyers and sellers. When using ETA, note that it is only an estimate and may be advanced or delayed due to weather, port congestion, customs inspection, schedule adjustments, and other factors. Therefore, it is usually used together with ETD (Estimated Time of Departure) to fully describe the transport timeline. Unlike ATA (Actual Time of Arrival), ETA is a planned time, while ATA is the actual time of occurrence; compared with ETB (Estimated Time of Berthing), ETA focuses more on arrival at the anchorage or port area, while ETB specifically refers to the time a vessel berths at the wharf. Foreign trade practitioners should closely monitor ETA updates from carriers and promptly notify customers to avoid additional costs or breach risks caused by delays.
