Application for L/C

An Application for L/C (Letter of Credit) is a formal written document submitted by the importer (the applicant) to the bank (the issuing bank) to apply for the issuance of a letter of credit. Its core contents include: type of L/C (e.g., irrevocable, at sight/usance), beneficiary information, amount, goods description, document requirements, shipment date, validity, presentation period, etc. Usage scenario: After the importer and exporter sign a contract, if settlement by L/C is agreed, the importer must fill out the application form and pay a deposit or provide security, and the bank issues the L/C accordingly. Precautions: The contents of the application must strictly conform to the contract terms, otherwise discrepancies may arise; the bank acts only according to the instructions in the application and does not examine the contract; the applicant must specify document requirements clearly to avoid vague wording; once the L/C is issued, amendments require mutual consent and incur fees. Distinction from other terms: The application for L/C is the starting document in the L/C issuance process, different from the L/C itself (the bank's payment undertaking) and from an amendment application (used to amend an already issued L/C).
