Mainline Vessel

Mainline Vessel refers to a ship operating on the main international ocean shipping routes, typically calling at major hub ports. It is larger in size and faster in speed, undertaking long-distance transoceanic or transregional transportation. Usage scenarios include: when a freight forwarder or shipping company arranges export cargo, the goods are first transported by a feeder vessel from the port of origin to a hub port, then transshipped to a mainline vessel for carriage to the destination port; or the port of origin is directly served by a mainline vessel. Precautions: It is necessary to distinguish mainline vessels from feeder vessels; feeder vessels handle regional collection and distribution, while mainline vessels handle trunk transportation. When booking space, confirm whether transshipment is involved, as well as the transshipment port and connection time, to avoid port detention. The bill of lading may show the 'Mainline Vessel' name and voyage number. Compared with feeder vessels, mainline vessels do not call at small ports, and freight is usually charged based on the main trunk segment. Foreign trade practitioners should pay attention to mainline vessel schedules, space availability, and transshipment terms to ensure transportation timeliness.
