Over-height Cargo

Over-height Cargo refers to cargo whose height exceeds the internal height limit of a standard container or transport vehicle during transportation, making it impossible to load into ordinary containers or pass through conventional channels. It is commonly seen in large machinery, engineering components, vehicles, etc. Usage scenarios include sea, land, and air transport, especially in sea freight, where over-height cargo is usually shipped in Open Top containers, Flat Rack containers, or breakbulk vessels, and must be clearly marked as 'Over-height' on the bill of lading and manifest. Precautions: It is necessary to confirm in advance the height restrictions of bridges and tunnels along the transport route, as well as vessel stowage and stacking limits; over-height and over-weight surcharges may apply; packaging must be reinforced to prevent collision. Unlike 'Over-weight Cargo' and 'Over-length Cargo', over-height cargo emphasizes the height dimension; the three often appear together but are charged and handled differently. Foreign trade practitioners should declare truthfully when booking to avoid cargo rejection, fines, or safety accidents caused by misdeclaration.
