Today, we're going to talk about a concept in biology called 'mimicry,' where one species evolves to resemble another. This is often for survival—either to avoid predators or to hunt more effectively. Let me give you two examples. First, consider the harmless milk snake. It has evolved to look very similar to the venomous coral snake. Both have bright red, yellow, and black bands. Predators, like birds, learn to avoid the coral snake because its bite is deadly. So when they see a milk snake with similar colors, they stay away. This protects the milk snake, even though it poses no threat. Second, let's look at the anglerfish. It uses a different kind of mimicry—it attracts prey by mimicking a smaller, edible creature. The anglerfish has a fleshy growth on its head that looks like a small fish or worm. When a smaller fish approaches to eat this 'bait,' the anglerfish quickly snaps it up. So, in both cases, mimicry helps the organism survive—either by avoiding being eaten or by making hunting easier.
