Today, we're going to talk about how animals use camouflage, but not just for hiding from predators. Camouflage can also be used for hunting. Let me give you two examples. First, consider the leaf-tailed gecko in Madagascar. Its body looks exactly like a dead leaf, including veins and edges. This helps it blend into the forest floor, so insects don't notice it until it strikes. Second, think about the polar bear. Its white fur matches the snow and ice, allowing it to sneak up on seals resting on ice floes. The seals don't see the bear until it's too late. So, in both cases, camouflage serves as an offensive tool, enabling these predators to surprise their prey effectively.
