Today we're going to talk about a fascinating behavior in the animal kingdom: cooperative hunting. Some animals hunt in groups to capture prey that would be impossible for a single individual to catch. This strategy increases their success rate and allows them to target larger or faster prey. Let me give you two examples. First, consider lions. Female lions work together in prides. They use coordinated tactics: some lions chase the prey towards others who are hiding in ambush. This teamwork enables them to bring down large animals like zebras or wildebeests, which a lone lion could rarely catch. Second, think about orcas, or killer whales. They hunt in pods and use sophisticated communication to herd fish into tight balls. Then they take turns swimming through the ball to eat. They also work together to create waves to wash seals off ice floes. These examples show that cooperative hunting is a key survival strategy for many predators.
