Today, we're going to talk about a fascinating phenomenon in animal behavior called 'cooperative hunting.' This is when animals work together in groups to capture prey that would be difficult to catch alone. One classic example is the lioness. In a pride, lionesses coordinate their attacks; some circle around to drive the prey toward others waiting in ambush. This teamwork increases their success rate significantly compared to hunting solo. Another example is the humpback whale. These whales use a technique called 'bubble net feeding.' They dive beneath a school of fish and blow bubbles in a spiral pattern, creating a 'net' that traps the fish. Then, one whale sings a loud call, and all the whales surge upward simultaneously with mouths open, scooping up thousands of fish. Both examples show that cooperative hunting allows animals to tackle prey that is faster or more numerous than they could handle alone.
