Today, we're going to talk about a concept called 'behavioral adaptation' in animals. Specifically, I want to focus on how some animals change their behavior in response to environmental changes, and this is not a physical change, but a learned or instinctive adjustment. One key example is the migration pattern of certain birds. For instance, the Arctic tern migrates thousands of miles each year, but when food becomes scarce in its usual wintering grounds, it has been observed to extend its migration to new areas. This shift in behavior helps it survive. Another example is the urban raccoon. Traditionally, raccoons were nocturnal and foraged in forests, but as cities expanded, some raccoon populations have adapted by becoming more active during twilight hours and raiding garbage bins. This change in foraging behavior allows them to exploit new food sources. So, the main point is that behavioral adaptations are crucial for survival when environments change rapidly.
