Today we're going to talk about a fascinating concept in animal behavior: cooperative hunting, where animals work together to capture prey. Now, this isn't just about group effort—it's about strategic coordination that increases efficiency. Take lions, for example. In a pride, lionesses often spread out in a crescent formation. Some act as 'drivers,' moving toward the center, while others wait in ambush. This division of roles means they can corner faster prey, like zebras, that would otherwise outrun a single hunter. Another example comes from dolphins. When hunting schools of fish, dolphins create a 'bubble net'—one dolphin swims in a circle blowing bubbles to confuse and trap the fish, while others take turns swimming through the center to feed. This requires precise timing and communication. So, the main point is that cooperative hunting isn't just about numbers; it involves role specialization and coordination, which greatly improves the success rate of the hunt.
