In biology, the concept of 'behavioral adaptation' refers to an action an organism takes to survive in its environment. Unlike physical adaptations, which are structural features, behavioral adaptations are learned or instinctive responses that enhance an organism's chances of survival and reproduction. Professor: Let's take a real example: the sea turtle. When a sea turtle hatches on a beach, it instinctively crawls toward the ocean. But here's the interesting part—this behavior is actually a response to light. On natural beaches, the moon reflects on the water, creating a bright horizon, and the turtle moves toward that light. However, on developed beaches, artificial lights from hotels can confuse the hatchlings, causing them to crawl inland, which often leads to death. Over time, some turtle populations have shown a behavioral adaptation: they now avoid brightly lit areas and instead choose darker paths to the sea. This learned or inherited shift in behavior increases their survival odds in changing environments. So, you see, this is not a physical change but a change in how the animal acts—a behavioral adaptation.
