In biology, the concept of 'behavioral adaptation' refers to an action or pattern of behavior that an organism develops over time to increase its chances of survival and reproduction in its environment. Unlike physical adaptations, which are structural traits, behavioral adaptations are learned or instinctive responses to environmental challenges. These behaviors can include migration, hunting strategies, or social cooperation, and they often arise through natural selection, where individuals with beneficial behaviors are more likely to survive and pass on their genes.

Professor: Let me give you a concrete example from my research on crows. In a coastal city, crows discovered that walnuts dropped on crosswalks could be cracked open by passing cars. However, they faced a danger—getting hit by those cars. So, they developed a clever behavioral sequence. First, they would wait on a traffic light pole, then fly down, place the walnut on the road, and quickly return to the pole. When the light turned red and cars stopped, they would hop down safely to retrieve the cracked nut. This behavior wasn't instinctive—younger crows learned it by watching older ones. Over time, this learned behavior became common in the local crow population, increasing their access to food and thus their survival rate. This perfectly illustrates behavioral adaptation.
❓ 问题 Question: Using the example from the lecture, explain the concept of behavioral adaptation.
