In biology, 'mimicry' refers to the evolutionary adaptation where one species evolves to resemble another species, often to gain a survival advantage. The mimicking species, called the mimic, may imitate the appearance, sounds, or behaviors of a model species that is dangerous, toxic, or otherwise avoided by predators. This can reduce the mimic's risk of being attacked because predators mistake it for the model. Mimicry is a form of deceptive resemblance that enhances the mimic's fitness in its ecological niche.

Professor: Let's take a real-world example of mimicry from a study conducted in the Amazon rainforest. Researchers observed a harmless species of butterfly, the 'blue morpho,' which has bright blue wings. However, there is a toxic butterfly species called the 'clearwing' that predators avoid because it tastes terrible. Interestingly, the blue morpho does not mimic the clearwing's color—it actually mimics the clearwing's slow, erratic flight pattern. When predators, like birds, see the blue morpho flying in that distinctive, clumsy way, they immediately assume it is the toxic clearwing and leave it alone. This example shows that mimicry isn't always about looking like the model; it can also involve imitating behavioral cues that predators associate with danger.
❓ Pregunta Using the example from the lecture, explain the concept of mimicry as described in the reading.
