TOEFL Speaking Task 2

Campus Announcement: Starting next semester, the university will extend library hours from 10 PM to midnight on weekdays. This change aims to accommodate students who prefer studying late. Additionally, a new quiet study floor will be added on the third floor to reduce noise distractions. The extended hours will be funded by an increase in student activity fees.

M: Did you see the announcement about the library? I'm not thrilled about it. W: Really? I thought it was great—more hours and a quiet floor. What's not to like? M: Well, the quiet floor is on the third floor, but that's where the group study rooms are. Students will still be talking and making noise when they come out. It won't be truly quiet. W: Hmm, I didn't think of that. But the extra hours are helpful for my late-night study sessions. M: True, but the fee increase is the real problem. I already pay enough for tuition and books. Adding more fees for something I might use occasionally isn't fair, especially for students who don't need late hours. W: I see your point. Maybe they should have asked students first before deciding.
