Campus Announcement: Extended Library Hours During Finals Week Starting December 10, the university library will extend its operating hours to 24/7 until December 20. This change aims to provide students with more flexible study spaces during the final exam period. Additional security staff will be on duty overnight, and study rooms can be reserved in advance. The extended hours will be evaluated after finals to determine if they should continue in future semesters.

M: Did you see the email about the library staying open all night during finals? I think it's a great idea. W: Really? I'm not so sure. I mean, it sounds good, but there are downsides. M: Like what? More time to study is always helpful. W: Well, first, it might actually hurt students' sleep schedules. If the library is open 24/7, people will pull all-nighters more often, which is unhealthy and counterproductive. They'd be too tired to do well on exams. M: Hmm, I guess that's possible, but I think it's a personal choice. I see it as a benefit because I work best late at night, and I have a part-time job during the day. So for me, it's perfect. W: Okay, but my second point is about the cost. The university is already short on funds. Hiring extra security and staff for overnight shifts costs money that could be used for more important things, like updating the outdated computers in the library. M: I didn't think about that. But still, I think the convenience outweighs the costs. Many students, like me, would really use it.
