TOEFL Speaking Task 2

Campus Announcement: The university will extend the library's hours to 24/5 (Sunday through Thursday nights) starting next semester. This change aims to accommodate late-night study needs. Additional funding will be allocated for increased security and staffing during overnight hours. However, to offset costs, the library will reduce its weekend hours, closing at 6 PM on Fridays and Saturdays instead of the current 10 PM.

M: Did you see the new library hours? I'm not sure it's a great trade-off. W: Really? I think it's great! I'm always pulling all-nighters before exams, and the library closes at midnight now. Having it open all night Sunday through Thursday is perfect for my study schedule. M: I get that, but what about weekend research projects? I often use the library on Saturday evenings for group work, and now it closes at 6 PM. That's really inconvenient. W: True, but weekends are usually more relaxed. Plus, the security upgrades mean I feel safer walking home late at night. That's a big win for me. M: I suppose, but I still think cutting weekend hours hurts students who have part-time jobs during the week and only have time to study on weekends. That's a real problem. W: I hadn't thought of that. Still, for most students, the 24-hour option is more useful. I'm all for it.
