Campus Fitness Center Expansion Announcement: Starting next semester, the university fitness center will undergo a major renovation to add a new swimming pool and expand the weightlifting area. During construction, scheduled to last eight months, the fitness center will be closed. As an alternative, the university will provide free temporary memberships to a nearby private gym for students and staff.

M: Did you see the announcement about the fitness center closing? That's terrible! I use it every day. W: I know, it's inconvenient, but I actually think it's a good thing. A new pool will be great for the swim team and for everyone who wants to swim. M: But eight months is a long time. The nearest gym is a mile away, and the free membership might not include all the equipment we have here. Plus, that gym is always crowded. W: Well, they said it's free, so you can't complain. Also, the expansion will eventually mean less crowding in the weight area, which is a big problem now. M: I guess, but I still think they should have done it in phases to keep part of the center open.
