TOEFL Speaking Task 2

Announcement: Starting next semester, the university library will extend its weekday hours to 2 a.m. and open 24 hours during final exam week. This change aims to provide more study time for students. Additionally, the library will add more group study rooms to facilitate collaborative projects.

Man: Did you see the library announcement? I think it's a great idea, especially the 24-hour finals week. Last semester, I had to leave at midnight during finals because the library closed, and it really disrupted my study flow. Woman: True, but I'm worried about the cost. Extending hours means more staff and utilities. The university might cut funding for other resources, like new books or databases. Man: But they mentioned adding group study rooms too. As a student in a lot of group projects, I know we struggle to find spaces. More rooms would help us collaborate better. Woman: I see your point, but I still think it's unnecessary. Most students, like us, can manage with the current hours if they plan ahead. The extra cost could be better spent elsewhere. Man: I disagree. Many students work part-time during the day and can only study at night. For them, this is essential. Plus, having more study rooms addresses a real shortage. Woman: I guess that's fair, but I'm not fully convinced. Maybe I'm just used to the current system.
