Students are encouraged to use the new facilities responsibly and to respect quiet study zones.

M: Did you see the announcement about the library? More carrels and longer hours—sounds great, right? W: I'm not so sure. I mean, the extended hours are nice, but 24/5 still doesn't cover Friday and Saturday nights, which are the busiest for students with part-time jobs during the day. I have to work those nights, so I'd need to study then. M: That's a good point. But what about the extra carrels? That should help with the shortage. W: Actually, no. They're putting them on the third floor, but that floor is known for being noisy—people talk and eat there. I can't concentrate in that environment. They should have added soundproofing or put them on the quieter lower floors instead. M: Hmm, I hadn't thought of that. So you're against it overall? W: Yes, because it doesn't address the real problems: weekend access and quiet spaces.
