TOEFL Speaking Task 2

Campus Notice: The university will extend the library's hours to 24/5 (Sunday through Thursday) starting next semester. This change is intended to accommodate students' varying study schedules, especially during exam periods. To fund this extension, the university will increase the student activity fee by $25 per semester. The extended hours will be available in the main library only, not in the branch libraries.

Man: Did you see the notice about the library hours? I think it's a great idea. I'm a night owl, and during finals week, I often have to leave the library at midnight when it closes. That's exactly when I'm most productive. Woman: I get that, but I'm against the fee hike. $25 more per semester adds up, and not all students will use the library at night. Why should I pay for something I won't use? Plus, the announcement says only the main library will stay open. The branch libraries are closer to the dorms, so students living there would have to walk across campus at night, which isn't safe. Man: True, but the main library is central, and I think the extra cost is worth it. They could also improve security with that fee. Woman: Even so, I think it's unfair to charge everyone. They should find other funding, maybe from donors or grants.
