TOEFL Speaking Task 2

Campus Announcement: Starting next semester, the university library will extend its hours to 24/7 during finals week. Additionally, a new quiet study floor will be added to reduce noise complaints. The administration believes these changes will improve student satisfaction and academic performance.

Man: Did you see the announcement about the library? I think it's a great idea. Woman: Really? I'm not so sure. The 24/7 hours during finals week sound nice, but the quiet floor? That might not help. Man: Why not? The quiet floor will give students a dedicated space to focus. I often get distracted by group discussions on the main floor. Woman: I get that, but the problem is that the quiet floor will only be on the third floor. The other floors will still be noisy. And adding just one floor won't solve the overall noise issue. Man: Well, at least it's a start. Also, the extended hours will allow students like me who work during the day to study at night. That's a big plus. Woman: I suppose, but I heard that the library doesn't have enough staff to keep it open all night. They might have to cut some daytime hours to compensate, which would hurt more students. Man: I didn't think about that. But I still think it's a positive change overall.
