TOEFL Speaking Task 2

Campus Announcement: The university will extend library hours to 24/7 during final exam week. This change aims to provide students with more flexible study spaces during the critical period. The extended hours will apply to the main library only, starting from the Sunday before finals through the Friday of finals week. Additional security staff will be on duty during overnight hours to ensure student safety.

M: Did you see the announcement about the library staying open all night during finals? I think it's a great idea. W: Really? I'm not so sure. I mean, it sounds good in theory, but I have some concerns. M: Like what? It gives us more time to study without rushing to leave at midnight. W: True, but the main library is already crowded during finals. If it's open 24/7, more students will come, and it'll be even harder to find a quiet spot. Plus, I usually study better at home late at night, but I'd feel forced to go to the library just because it's open, even if it's not my preferred environment. M: Hmm, I see your point, but for those of us who don't have a good study space at home, it's a lifesaver. And the extra security makes it safe. W: I understand, but the crowding issue is real. Last year, during finals, I couldn't find a seat even during the day. Extending hours won't solve that; it might just spread out the crowd, but at night, there could be fewer people, so maybe it's okay. Still, I think they should also add more study rooms in other buildings.
