TOEFL Speaking Task 2

Campus Notice: The university will extend the library's hours to open 24 hours a day during final exam week. This change is intended to provide students with more flexible study spaces. However, to manage costs, the library will reduce its weekend hours during the rest of the semester. The university believes this adjustment balances student needs with budget constraints.

Student A: Did you see the notice about the library? I think it's a great idea to have 24-hour access during finals. Last semester, I had to leave at midnight when I was in the middle of a paper. This will really help me prepare better. Student B: I see your point, but I'm not happy about cutting weekend hours for the rest of the semester. I usually do most of my studying on weekends because I work part-time during the week. With the library closing early on Saturdays, I'll have to find other places to study, which is inconvenient. Student A: But don't you think the extra hours during exams are more important? That's when everyone is stressed and needs the most time. Student B: I understand, but weekend reductions affect us all semester long. I think they could have found a better way to save money without hurting regular study times.
