TOEFL Speaking Task 2

Campus Announcement: Starting next semester, the university library will extend its opening hours on weekdays from 10 PM to midnight, and will also open on Sundays from noon to 8 PM. The additional hours will be staffed by student assistants, funded by a small increase in the student activities fee. The administration believes this change will better accommodate students' study needs, especially during midterms and finals.

M: Did you see the announcement about the library hours? I think it's a great idea. I always have to leave at 10 PM during finals week, and it's really inconvenient. Extra hours would help a lot. W: I see the benefit, but I'm not so sure. The fee increase bothers me. We already pay so much, and not everyone uses the library late at night. I rarely stay past 8 PM. M: That's true, but think about the Sunday hours too. Many students work part-time on weekdays and can only study on Sundays. I know my roommate works every weekend morning, so he'd love the Sunday option. W: Still, I think the money could be spent on more important things, like more computers or better Wi-Fi. The library is already open until 10 PM, which is enough for most. M: But for those who need it, extra hours can make a big difference in academic performance. And student assistants get jobs, which is a plus. I'm all for it.
