TOEFL Speaking Task 2

Campus Announcement: Starting next semester, the university will extend library hours on weekdays until 2 a.m. Additionally, a new late-night shuttle service will be added to run between the library and the main dormitory area every half hour from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. The university believes these changes will better accommodate students' study needs and improve campus safety.

Student A (female): Did you see the announcement about the library? I think it's a great idea! I often pull all-nighters before exams, and the current 10 p.m. closing time is just too early. I have to go back to my dorm and study in the common room, which is noisy. With the library open until 2 a.m., I can finally concentrate in a quiet place. Student B (male): That's true, but what about the shuttle? It only runs every 30 minutes. If I miss it, I'd have to wait in the cold for a long time. That's not safe, especially for women. Student A: Well, the shuttle is still better than nothing. And actually, the half-hour interval is reasonable—most students can plan ahead. Plus, the library staff will be there, so you're not totally alone. I think the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. Also, having a shuttle means we don't have to walk alone at night, which is a big plus for safety. Student B: Hmm, maybe you're right. But I still worry about the wait. But overall, I see your point.
