As the global population structure ages at an accelerating pace, many countries are confronting the dual pressures of overburdened pension systems and a steadily shrinking working-age population. Against this backdrop, some argue that governments should significantly raise the retirement age and encourage older adults to delay retirement, in order to alleviate fiscal crises and sustain economic growth. Others, however, insist that such measures not only overlook the physical and health limitations of older workers, but may also exacerbate youth unemployment and deprive the elderly of their right to enjoy later life.
