In many developed countries, historic districts in city centers are being demolished in large swaths to make room for high-rise residential buildings and commercial complexes; at the same time, other cities are investing heavily in restoring old buildings and converting them into cultural or public spaces. Faced with the tension between housing shortages and preserving urban memory, do you believe that cities, in their pursuit of modernization and livability, should always prioritize the preservation of historic buildings? Please state your position and support it with specific reasons and examples.
